How to talk to your child about their first period?
We know that talking about periods can be embarrassing. However, it's worth remembering that by being open, we build a valuable relationship with our child, based on mutual trust and honesty.
We want to support you in talking to a maturing person – often embarrassed and lost in the new reality.
See what advice we have for you !

Not such a scary conversation about puberty…
… when you prepare for it a bit and take care of the right circumstances. Remember – you don’t have to recite the answers like from an encyclopedia. The child will most appreciate openness, willingness to understand, support and simply a human approach.
We have some tips for you that can make it easier:
1. Choose a convenient moment.
Despite the omnipresent rush, this conversation should have its own space. By being present here and now, you will build a greater sense of security and courage to raise many topics, even those considered shameful.
2. Get support from academic support.
Reach for help, which will be easier for you to explain and easier for your child to understand. You can sit comfortably, for example, with a book on an e-reader or laptop and review the most important issues.
3. Be ready for uncomfortable questions or… no questions at all.
Then assure your child that you are there for them and if they want to ask anything, they can always turn to you without any worries. And, of course, keep that promise :)
Don't force it! If you see that your child is very tense and reluctant to talk about it with you (and this can happen), send your child an e-book that will introduce them to the world of puberty in an accessible form.
“Welcome to the Club” for parents and guardians of adolescents!
"Welcome to the Club" is an e-book under the patronage of SEXEDPL responding to the insufficient menstrual education in schools and the real needs of teenagers and teenage girls. Together with SEXEDPL we fight taboos, myths and sexual disinformation. Together we raise awareness!
The e-book is aimed at adolescents who want to learn everything about menstruation and the changes that occur in their bodies,
and also to you – the person who is yet to have “this” conversation with the child.

The e-book "Welcome to the Club" is:
✔ a conversation with a friend who understands what a maturing person is dealing with. Knowledge is interwoven with advice and memories from the author's, Paulina Pomaska's, personal experiences;
✔ 188-page book filled with graphics and helpful anatomical illustrations that clearly explain what, where and how;
✔ substantive knowledge of anatomy checked by an expert – gynecologist Małgorzata Siemion;
✔ a dictionary, a collection of questions and direct answers that will allow your child to dispel doubts and understand more;
✔ the only inclusive coming-of-age book of its kind, because we know that “genitals don’t always go hand in hand with gender identity.” This extended version is based on a previous paperback book aimed at girls.
"Welcome to the club" under the patronage of SEXEDPL

"At SEXEDPL, our motto is "there are no stupid questions" - school does not provide us with answers to questions that interest us or embarrass us, and at home we are often embarrassed to ask them. It is fantastic that a book is appearing on the market that will allow us to go through the topic of the first period with tenderness, without taboos, but also in an inclusive way and taking into account the diverse needs of menstruating people. I would like to come across it before my first period and I hope that it will help many people - if after reading it they still feel the need to discuss what they are experiencing, the experts at SEXEDPL are waiting"
